Charles Parker: This View Is Mine Alone....

When I started my job this week as a Brevard County High School teacher I was asked to read and sign some media guidelines.  It gives suggestions regarding blogs and Facebook and other social media outlets.  Since what I write about here is directly related, I decided to make sure I abide by these rules.  After all, I am a rule-follower.
So - the views expressed on Brevard Times, on my Facebook page, on my Twitter, and on my BlogTalkRadio show by me are mine alone and they do not necessarily reflect the views of Brevard Public Schools.
Just so we’re clear…
I support the free exercise of religion.  This view is mine alone and does not necessarily reflect the views of Brevard Public Schools.
I am a Christian who teaches and respects all religions. I also like chicken sandwiches and have previously noted that I support a state option for gay marriage.
I support the freedom of speech.  This view is mine alone and does not necessarily reflect the views of Brevard Public Schools.
However, I am a little tired of all the “anonymous” posters on my stories.  If you’ve got an opinion, man up (or woman up, I guess) and tell everyone who you are.
I support the freedom of the press.  This view is mine alone and does not necessarily reflect the views of Brevard Public Schools.
I will be teaching a journalism class this year and am looking forward to teaching the students how to write unbiased news articles.  Shamefully, there are not many news outlets I will be able to use as primary sources.
I support the right to peaceful assembly.  This view is mine alone and does not necessarily reflect the views of Brevard Public Schools.
Westboro Baptist is despicable and also within their rights to protest.  However, peaceful counter-protest will win hearts and minds every time when hate is met with love.
I support Mitt Romney, I support a GOP takeover of the US Senate, I support textualism at the Supreme Court, and I support Dairy Queen and Merri Cakes.
These views are mine alone and do not necessarily reflect the views of Brevard Public Schools.
There…happy…?

  1. CHARLES: I'd be HAPPIER if you didn't write any of your REPUBLICAN slanted articles. Where are all of the columns in BT from the Democrat view? Are you a partner in BT or own it all? The "good ole boy network" is alive and well in Brevard Country and you seem to be a stong promoter of it! It's pretty bad when there is not one elected Democrat in public office in this county, other than the President, who you constantly degrade. Your staunch opinions haven't changed much in the nearly 30 years I have known who you are! I often wonder if you're teaching your slanted views in your classrooms. I sure hope that you're not! Your picture posing with Karl Rove tells me all that I need to know about you! I just can't imagine that you have become a multi-millionaire supporter of Mitt Romney. Teaching at MIHS must pay a lot more than I realized. I can't understand why anyone who wasn't a millionaire, supporting and voting for Mr. One Percent.

    1. First - I have no stake in Brevard Times. I offered to write for them for free after Florida Today fired all of the citizen bloggers they had. (BTW, I was one of the few conservative voices in Florida Today - now there are none.)

Second, I have never been a part of the Brevard County "good ole boy" network. I think my recent criticism of some Brevard Republicans speaks for itself.

Third, my staunch conservative views have changed over the years. I am against the death penalty and for a state option for gay marriage.

Fourth, I have NEVER given my political opinion in any classroom. Some teachers do - both liberal and conservative. I do not - it is wrong. If you can find one of my students who has ever heard me promote a party or candidate in my classroom - bring them on. I even turned down an offer to be the sponsor of the high school republican Club because I don't want to blur the line.

Fifth, meeting Rove was a random event. As was meeting Brian Lamb - the independent founder of CSpan. As was meeting Democrat Senator Bill Nelson in the airport. If you're going to call me out - don't distort the picture.

Finally, I am far from a multi-millionaire. However, I would love to be one. And if I was - I would pay my fair share in taxes, give much more money to charity than most limousine liberals do, start a foundation to help the disadvantaged, and give as much as I legally could to candidates who are conservative like me.

Sir - you may have known who I am for almost 30 years - but it's obvious that you don't really know me....

    3. Can we just stop with the us vs them mentality. We are in a recession because of our elected so called ''leaders'' inability to do their job period

  2. Well, Number one, I am not a "Limousine Liberal" but I am a Registered Democrat and I do appreciate your response.
I am glad to know that you do not have an interest in BT other than being a contributor. It still would be nice to see some representation from the other side, not only articles from you, which we know will be conservative.
I am glad to know that you'll keep your politics out of the classroom.
It's too bad that you couldn't get some of the people that you support to pay their fair share of taxes, be more interested in the disadvantaged, the death penalty and equal rights for LGBT, which you say that you support. I guess that you wouldn't get very far in that department.
Maybe you could pass on some of my concerns upstairs at BT and get some democrat as smart as you to write comparable articles stating the other side of the political spectrum. That would be nice.
Again, thanks for taking the time to respond.

    1. There are plenty of liberals out there in the media who state the other side - they're just not as smart as me...:-)

  3. Brevard Times repeatedly reached out to liberal and progressive groups soliciting for a contributing writer for a counter-point the same time Charles joined Brevard Times.

Despite the repeated requests to several liberal and progressive groups, none have responded.

  5. Just curious, which news outlets will you be using as examples of unbiased journalism?
